Stop Dreaming, Start Doing!

Most people will passively do exactly what they did last year. Whatever you do, don’t let that person be you.– Richie Norton

It’s already February, and I don’t know about you, but to me, it feels like we were only celebrating the New Year just last week, along with discussing our dreams, goals and  plans for 2020.

There comes a time though when the talking and planning needs to give way to action otherwise you’ll find yourself in the same place in July, still talking about the same dreams and goals. This scenario is certainly not one that I am intending experiencing this year, as I have learned from personal experience that in order for goals to be achieved – at some point, you need to stop dreaming and start doing!

If you are ready to start doing what is needed to bring your dreams to life, then read on for some tips to help you on your way:

1. Take Action, and not just any action, but targeted, intentional action (which I talk about in more depth in my book 21 Hacks to ROCK your Life!) This also means that you start taking steps in the right direction while you are planning, instead of waiting for every detail of your plan to be complete! Even the smallest step in the right direction will help you get there quicker than if you had taken no step at all, so put down the pen and planner and start taking action on your dreams today!

2. Divide your goals into smaller mini-goals. Set your self up for success by working on mini-goals that contribute to your overall, big, hairy audacious goal! Not only will you be strengthening your confidence muscle each time that you tick off one of your mini goals – you will be edging closer to completing your big goal which might have seemed too out of reach otherwise.

3. Reframe your thinking and language. How many times have you said “I’d like to write a book one day” or “I want to get fit and healthy” – but you’re still yet to do it? Perhaps it is time to change how you think and speak about these goals. For instance, try changing the first statement to “I am writing a book this year, and will have the first three chapters written by June.” Try this for the second statement:  “I am getting healthier and stronger each week as I choose to eat well and move my body intentionally.” There is strength in action orientated statements that will help you develop a clear and positive mindset about your goals.

By implementing these three simple tips, you will be on your way to no longer dreaming of your goal but actually achieving your goal!
